para que o céu não caia
lia rodrigues compania de danças / collaboration
The myth of the end of the world, reported by the Yanomami shaman Davi Kopenawa, says that, once the harmony of life in the universe is broken, the sky - which in the Yanomami language is understood by “what is above us” - collapses on all who are below and not just about the forest peoples. In the face of so many catastrophes and barbarities that haunt and mute us every day, in this context of drastic climate changes that darken the future, what is left for us to do? How to imagine ways to continue and act? What can each of us do, in our own way, to hold the sky? There is no time to lose before everything falls apart. The sky is already falling and here we are living under it. Let us join our most intimate forces to maintain this sky. Each in their own way. At Maré we dance to the rhythm of machines and cars, helicopters, sirens, we dance under scorching heat, we dance with rain and storm, we dance as an offering and as a tribute, not to disappear, to last and to rot, to to move the air and to expand, to dream and to visit dark places, to become fireflies, to be weak and to resist. We dance to find a way to survive in this world turned upside down. Dance to hold the sky. That's what we can do. So that the sky doesn't fall ... we dance.
